I am working on trying to translate some paperwork of I believe my great-grandfathers which was found after my grandmother passed away.  Between having taken Russian in college 10 years ago and a dictionary I have still I think I am on the correct path of finding out what this document is exactly.  It is a small book maybe about 5x7 in size and it has the following on the front page.  Some of the words I think I have correct but others I can not find in my dictionaries.  This is from the early 1900's so I am not sure if some of the words are maybe antiquated which is why I can not find them.  If someone can help me with these lines so I at least can see if this is what I think it is.

No 26/1903
(ВИДОМЪ НА ЖИТЕЛЬСТВО СЛУЖИТЬ НЕ МОЖЕТЪ)

Thank You.  That confirms what little of that I had managed to translate and I believe confirms what I believe this documentation to be - a pass to leave the Pale of Settlement.  Now comes the fun part - making out all the script on the following pages.  Thanks again.

Actually as I look further into it and do research I believe this may be military papers and be for leave purposes.  I am seeing a lot of words related to military service including one page that starts out with При призыве на службу which I believe is For conscription into service and a second page which has a heading надлиси о временныхъ отлучкахъ и возвращен(ие) изъ оныхъ which I believe means Notice of provisional absence and return from them.  Has anyone ever seen this kind of document before with the information I am see and can tell me if I am on the right track of what this is?  The booklet is from the early 1900's.

Also I am seeing some type characters that do not look like the typed characters I am used to in cyrillic.  One looks like a b with a line through the stem, so kind of a combination of a b and a t.  Best I can determine is it is the letter e with an accent over it as I can make out what looks like месяцъ except for the second character and based on context it means month - it is a column heading which I can see the various months in script under.  The other use of characters which I see is what looks like an english lowercase i followed by и, which based on the возвращен(ие) example I pasted above is in place of the ие I am familiar with.  Is there anyone that is familiar with Russian type from the early 1900's - looks like this was issued in 1903 - that can verify what these letters I do not recognize are?
